Inflammatory Skin Conditions

Inflammation is your body’s natural biological response to an illness, injury or an invader like a virus or toxic chemical. Under normal circumstances the inflammation process lasts for a few hours or days and allows your body to heal (acute inflammation). However, the inflammation process itself can harm you if it occurs in healthy tissues or if the response goes on for too long (months and years). This abnormal response is called chronic inflammation. Examples include skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis (eczema).

Chronic inflammatory diseases affect millions of people worldwide and are a major medical health burden. Understanding the underlying biology and disease progression as well as developing new and improved drug treatments to meet the unmet needs globally is a priority for healthcare researchers. Our research volunteers are helping researchers to meet this goal.

We are currently open and recruiting research volunteers with the following conditions:

  • Atopic dermatitis (atopic eczema)
  • Psoriasis
  • Hidradenitis suppurativa (acne inversa)

We are looking for males or females aged 18 years and over with active/inflamed areas of affected skin.

Study participation will usually involve 1 study visit to donate a tissue sample.

A payment will be made upon completion of your participation for your time, travel expenses, and to compensate for any inconvenience.

If you would like to find out more, please contact our Volunteer Team.

If you have an inflammatory condition not mentioned above, we are still interested to hear from you. You may be able to take part in future studies.

We always need healthy volunteers too

At the heart of every new medical breakthrough are healthy volunteers. By participating in pre-clinical and phase 1 clinical trials—crucial drug development steps—you can play a part in bringing new medicines and treatments to the clinic and help those patients most in need.
